Prop 1 Passes in New York, Securing Reproductive Rights and Freedom For All
We can’t blame you if things feel heavy right now — it’s been a whirlwind of a year for all of us. While so much still remains to be seen politically as we prepare for a new administration to take the helm, Extend Fertility’s mission hasn’t changed; we advocate for reproductive rights, and exist to help you achieve your family building goals your way, on your own timeline.
And we’re proud to say that Proposition 1 passed with an overwhelming majority vote in New York, meaning the right to make your own reproductive choices is now safeguarded and ingrained in the state’s constitution.
Also known as the Equal Rights Amendment, Prop 1 protects your rights to “reproductive healthcare and autonomy” over your body. An updated section of Prop 1 also means you can make choices about any “potential pregnancy and pregnancy outcomes,” and have a right to family planning, fertility preservation, IVF, abortion and other reproductive care services. Essentially, at this time it’s legal to freeze, store, thaw and implant eggs and embryos in New York, so you can continue to do so at our clinic safely, without having to stress about government interference.
Additionally, the Equal Rights Amendment protects against discrimination on disability, gender, sexuality and religion as it relates to reproductive care. At Extend Fertility, we serve a diverse patient population, all of whom share one thing in common; you want to build your family on your terms, whether that’s by freezing eggs for the future or by undergoing IUI or IVF right now. And we’re so proud to serve patients in a state that’s proved its dedication to inclusive health care and family equality for all patients on their unique journeys to parenthood.
In the event that New York’s reproductive rights regulations change, we’ll do everything we can to protect, inform and support you on your fertility journey. In the meantime, we’ll continue to make fertility treatment affordable and accessible for all families, and empower you to make your own decisions about your reproductive future.
