In an interview last week on Anna Faris is Unqualified—a relationship advice podcast hosted by the comedienne for whom it’s named—actress Olivia Munn of The Newsroom and the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse gave her ovaries a rave review.

“Years ago, I froze a bunch of eggs,” she tells Faris, after the two spent the podcast discussing the ups and down of pregnancy. Munn was motivated to explore her fertility options after a friend got some bad news about her ovarian reserve. “A girlfriend of mine, we’re the same age, and she had gone to the doctor and found out she had the egg count of a 50-something-year-old woman. They can tell by a blood test,” Munn explains, referring to the Anti-Mullerian hormone (or AMH) test.

That prompted Munn to see her own doctor, who thankfully delivered promising results. “He said, ‘You actually have a lot of eggs, so you’re really lucky,’” she recalls. “The best thing to do is freeze your eggs, because then you’ll always have these eggs,” her doctor told her, and she agreed.

Munn, who is now 35, says she started telling all of her friends about the procedure, stating “It’s no longer on the experimental list, and I think every girl should do it.” Why? She gives a few reasons. “One, you don’t have to race the clock anymore. You don’t have to worry about it—you don’t have to worry about your job or anything,” she explains. Two, she says, is the possibility of medical complications that could affect her fertility. “I’ve known some girls who were in their late 20s who get cancer and all the sudden they’ve got to go through treatment, and they don’t have any eggs after that… You just don’t know what will happen medically.” And lastly, she cites the chance that, if a woman were to get divorced in her 30s, she’d have the option to start over, and start a family, with someone new later on.

“I like this Doomsday approach,” laughs Faris in response to Munn’s reasoning. “Doomsday is now like, whatever day,” Munn says. “Because I’m prepared.”

“I see so many women who go through in vitro later, and they’re struggling and struggling,” Munn adds. “We have the option [to prevent that]. It’s there.” Munn’s referring to the fact that IVF success rates depend, in large part, on the age of the eggs used in the procedure. She seems to have convinced Faris, who ultimately agrees that egg freezing is just “smart planning.”

“Let’s freeze our eggs together,” Munn says to Faris. “Let’s do it!”

That’s easy to say to another celebrity like Faris, but Munn’s bold statement that “every girl should do it” had some women pointing out the obvious on social media: while the cost of egg freezing may be negligible for women with resources like these two, it can be a serious chunk of change for a regular woman.
